Urban Watersheds Revitalization Conference
Overview
Since 2005, the Philadelphia Water Department, along with its partners, has hosted an annual conference, titled the Urban Watersheds Revitalization Conference. The event gives PWD an opportunity to explore current watershed-related themes that are relevant to the City of Philadelphia and the suburban communities that drain to the City. The conference is held at different locations every year and it targets the urban and suburban (or mostly developed) communities in southeastern Pennsylvania. The audience is diverse – comprised of local planners, engineers, municipal representatives, community activists, among others. The event is offered at a nominal fee or it is free of charge.
Details about the 2010 Urban Watersheds Revitalization Conference are still in early planning stages, information about the event will be posted as soon as it becomes available.
“The conference was one of the best I’ve been to in 25 years. Such a wide cross-section of people but all of us focused on the same city-improving agenda. Thanks for your efforts in making it happen.”
2008 Urban Watersheds Revitalization Conference: Greening Our Streets
Overview
The theme of the 2008 Urban Watersheds Revitalization Conference, held October 31, 2008 was "Greening Our Streets." The conference explored what constitutes a green street, presented the vision that is guiding the movement toward green streets, and provided insight into how our region can move forward by turning the vision into a reality. We explored how to improve stormwater management on public right-of-ways, while also beautifying communities, providing economic incentives, and creating other environmental benefits and amenities. The conference focused on the demonstration projects and case studies in Philadelphia and in the nearby suburbs, as well as the work and experience of regional and national design and engineering experts. The Philadelphia Water Department, and its partners, would like to thank the presenters for participating and for giving us permission to display their presentations on this site.
