Spokesdog Contest Guidelines
Who Can Enter?
The Philadelphia Water Department is looking for two eco-friendly dogs who want to help keep Philly’s waterways clean . . . one in Northern Liberties and one in Queen Village. Spokesdogs will be chosen to teach bark-park buddies and their caretakers about the importance of picking up pet waste. Dogs and their caretakers must be friendly and interested in interacting with other dogs and their caretakers at public events. Dogs must be licensed and up-to-date on all vaccinations.
How Do I Enter My Dog?
Visit www.phillywatersheds.org/spokesdog for contest and entry information. Entries will be accepted from December 15, 2011 to February 15, 2012. The online form must be completed in full and a photograph (less than 8 MB) of only the dog must be uploaded. Only one entry allowed per dog, although multiple entries per household are allowed.
How Are The Spokedogs Chosen?
VOTING
Anyone from anywhere is allowed to vote once a day. Voting will take place for two months, starting March 1 and ending May 1. Encourage your friends and family to vote.
The online voting will determine the top 15 finalists for each neighborhood.
JUDGING & AWARDS CEREMONY
After the online voting has closed, the 15 finalists from each neighborhood will be invited to an awards ceremony. Judges will select the top dog based on friendly nature, best canine smile, charm, and natural spokesdog abilities.
What Are The Spokesdog Duties (not doodies)?
Winning spokesdogs and their caretakers will be required to attend at least 3 community events in 2012 distributing information on living the eco-friendly dog life. Small bag dispensers that clip to leashes and educational tipcards will be provided to hand out at these events. The educational tipcard explains how dog waste left on the ground breaks down and washes into local storm drains every time it rains. The disease-causing bacteria found in pet waste then flows from the storm drains into our local streams and the Delaware and Schuylkill Rivers.
